The unique name being inspired by famous Daresbury born author Lewis Carroll - is about to make its entrance in the sporting world. The club will seek to attract youngsters - both boys and girls up to 18 years of age - from Appleton, Stockton Heath, Walton, Lymm, Thelwall, Stretton, Daresbury, Grappenhall and villages to the South of Warrington.
The new venture has the full support of Super League club Warrington Wolves, as Peter Farrell, head of recruitment, is keen to emphasise: " This a great idea and one that will receive the full backing of the Wolves. We will provide as much assistance and guidance as is required to create the proper standards and infrastructures both on and off the field. We have many supporters who live in the area and we are confident they will become involved with the Cheshire Cats." Founder and former London Broncos Chief Executive Lionel Hurst points out: " There has been tremendous interest shown in many quarters for the formation of a vibrant and standards driven club to serve families in the South Warrington/traditional Cheshire area. This need will now be met." The Cheshire Cats will over time be comprised of sides in all age groups and will pursue an original approach in that games will also be played in the summer months. Neil Waters, joint founder and media manager, adds that " the fixture list will be ground breaking in that the Cats will look both North and South and will therefore play matches in traditional rugby towns as well as attending festivals in the Midlands and the south of England. This strategy will reflect the tremendous current growth and development of Rugby League throughout the nation." All those who wish to become players, sponsors or helpers should contact Neil on 07788 775012 or
