Fiji National Rugby League chair Peni Musunamasi has confirmed that a number of premier clubs in Australia, England and France have shown interest in securing the services of Bati players for the new season following Fiji’s impressive run at the 2008 Rugby League World Cup in Australia.
While the stalwart FNRL administrator did not want to go into detail about their dealings with the clubs he has confirmed that negotiations are underway with the relevant authorities before a contract is shown to the player for finalisation.
“I can tell you that currently we are dealing with a club from the UK and a former Fijian citizen is negotiating the deal,” Musunamasi said.
He said the English club is interested in two players.
Veteran Bati utility back Semi Tadulala plies his trade with champion UK premier side the Bradford Bulls and is expected to hang his boots in the near future.
Fijilive understands that inspirational Bati vice captain Waisale Sukanaveita and pivotal play maker Alipate Noilea Tani have been the target of these clubs after their gallant performances at the world cup.
Musunamasi said that top NRL club St George Illiwarra is also set to sign on a number of players but are awaiting word from their agent who is currently in talks with the New South Wales based side.
“FNRL has a partnership with Dragons, that’s how we managed to secure the services of technical advisors Shame Morris and Max Ninnes, who have also been of great help in our World Cup campaign this season.”
“But that deal is pretty raw right now, I can’t say anything yet but I can confirm they have shown interest.” He said |
