The Queensland Rugby League (QRL) Board has today confirmed that 12 teams will take part in the 2009 Queensland Cup competition. The teams, which were granted conditional entry in September, were given the final tick of approval today by the Board following an extensive review of submissions.
The teams are: Burleigh Bears, Central Comets, Easts Tigers, Ipswich Jets, Mackay Cutters, Northern Pride, Norths Devils, Redcliffe Dolphins, Souths Logan Magpies, Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles, Tweed Heads Seagulls and the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
Having competed in the FOGS competitions since 2006, the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles become the 12th team in Queensland’s premier competition.
The draw for the 2009 season is now being submitted to the Clubs and will be finalised shortly.
The Competition kicks off on the weekend of March 14-15, with the Grand Final to be played on September 12.
The QRL Board will also support the staging of the Grand Final at a regional/suburban venue following on from the success of this year’s clash between Souths Logan and Ipswich at the North Ipswich Reserve.
With the extra team now added to the Competition, a new structure involving six teams for the Finals Series is being examined. |
