The Czech Rugby League Association has announced the formation of a new club in Pardubice, which is set to make its debut in their domestic championship when it commences next spring.

The Eastern Bohemian town with a population of around 90,000 is best known for the production of the plastic explosive Semtex, delicious frosted gingerbread and a series of formidable ice-hockey teams who have been consistently outstanding over a long period in their national competition.

Now, principally due to the hard work and enthusiasm of co-managers Hynek Skorepa and Paul Hooper and player organizers Marian Adam and Jiri Paula, Pardubice RL are set to become founder members of the Czech club set up.

Milan Mrtynek, CZRLA President, was a keen and appreciative observer of the very first training session held in the Pardubice Sokol stadium, watching an encouraging number of brave souls going through the process of acquiring the basic skills required.

"These guys are the future of Czech rugby leagueR21;, he said. “And we need to do everything we can to reward how motivated they obviously are.”

Special guest at the first training sessions was New Zealander Shane Rangi, a professional actor and stuntman currently based in Prague, who is also both a former junior All Black and keen rugby league player.

His extremely welcome presence brought a highly valued combination of technical skills assistance and unbridled positive energy to the group .

The early indications are that those same qualities are beginning to rub off on his appreciative audience.
