Sporting Life - The 22-year-old Carney, who signed for the Giants after being sacked by Canberra Raiders last summer following a series of alcohol-related incidents, applied for his visa in October and was due to link up with the Super League club a week ago but is still being held up by red tape.

It was reported in Australia on Wednesday that Huddersfield have begun the search for a replacement amid fears that Carney's visa application may be rejected, although the Giants declined to comment.

"If he's not allowed to go overseas, he's going to have to seek employment in Australia," Carney's agent David Riolo told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I'll have to ask the NRL if he can be registered and, if they choose not to, I'll be asking on what grounds."
