By Alan Lander, Sunshine Coast Daily - The Sunshine Coast council has been told to “get its skates” on if it wants state funding for Quad Park. Treasurer Andrew Fraser, on the Coast on Wednesday, said the government was well aware of the Quad Park funding issue.
The council is seeking $5 million from the state to go with its own $5 million and a similar federal government grant to build a grandstand at the park, in the stadium’s first step to becoming the premier sporting venue on the Coast.
However, Mr Fraser said the council had not yet submitted an application, and time was running out.
“We are happy to take a submission from them but they need to get their skates on,” he said.
“You (will) have to go to the councillors to ask why they have not put in a formal submission.”
Mr Fraser said a formal submission was required even though Sydney rugby league club Manly Sea Eagles was already putting operational funding in.
“There is someone called the auditor general who makes sure we go through things fairly,” Mr Fraser said of the funding process.
“We don’t just make things up as we go along.”
He said the sports minister was due to meet with the council in a couple of weeks and it would be beneficial to get a funding submission in soon.
On Tuesday, the council recommended submitting a funding application, a decision which was to be ratified at an ordinary meeting today.
