Universities Rugby League Queensland (URLQ) would like to advise that applications are now open for the 2009 Queensland Universities Rugby League team, and is inviting any current Rugby League players attending University, TAFE or a recognised Tertiary institute, to register.
The Australian University Sport Queensland Team is scheduled to resume their Interstate rivalry against a NSW Students side in April.
Thanks to Brisbane Broncos Management the fiercely contested Interstate grudge match will be played as a curtain raiser to the Round 7 NRL clash between the Brisbane Broncos and Parramatta Eels, at what should be a sold out Suncorp Stadium.
From that interstate clash, an Australian Students side will be selected for an international tour. The Australian Universities Rugby League is currently finalising tour details that will see the team travel to either the Pacific Islands or South Africa.
Having recorded a resounding 48-4 demolition of their opponent’s in the corresponding 2008 fixture in Wollongong, competition for positions in the 2009 Queensland's Universities Team is tipped to be fierce.
Maroon's players commanded 14 of the 21 player selections in the 2008 Australian Universities World Cup squad, and the Queenslander's will be again primed to dominate selections for this season’s international tour.
The Maroons squad will again congregate in Brisbane for a week long camp before the Interstate clash.
To be eligible for the Queensland side, players must be completing full-time tertiary education within any Queensland University, TAFE or recognised College or Tertiary institution (All applicants must be completing a diploma level course or higher).
Interested applicants click here for the registration form, with a reminder that applications shut on the 20th of February. For any queries relating to the team, please contact URLQ Chairman Martin Unicomb on 0417 728925. |
