By Barbara Jordan, Runcorn World - Rugby legend Vince Karalius who died in December has been honoured this week. The River Suite at Halton Stadium was renamed the Karalius Suite in his memory and decorated with photographs and montages marking his illustrious sporting career.

His widow, Barbara, cut a ribbon on Sunday at a ceremony attended by his family and guests, including Halton MP Derek Twigg, Runcorn MP Mike Hall and civic dignitaries.

Halton Council leader Clr Tony McDermott and Vikings chairman Steve O’Connor paid tribute to Karalius, nicknamed ‘Vinty,’ and hailed one of Widnes’ greatest ever players.

A former Great Britain rugby league international, Karalius enjoyed three successful spells at his hometown club, first as a player in 1962 and twice as a coach, winning the Challenge Cup both times.
