Round Up - Celtic Crusdaers were pushed all the way by rejuvenated Siddal before coming out 24-16 winners to maintain their top two challenge. Trailing 10-0 at the break, Crusaders were indebted to winger Dalton Grant whose two touchdowns in the final four minutes, to complete his hat trick, ensured victory.

In an excellent contest, Siddal welcomed back influential stand off Anthony Beaumont and hooker turned loose forward Danny Russell and they began strongly, taking the contest to the visitors. Sean Challenor’s kick caused havoc in the visiting ranks in the 15th minute and Russell was on hand to pounce, gather and cross, Challenor converting.

Siddal continued to dominate and made their pressure tell; centre Karl Hancock galloping over to make it 10-0 at the break. Again the hosts dominated at the start of the second half but Celtic got their first points on the board when full back Nathan Davies broke brilliantly into the line to romp over for an unconverted score.

Five minutes later Grant made his presence felt, breaking through and finishing in classic winger’s manner out wide to make it 10-8. Siddal regrouped and extended their lead when excellent prop Joshua Sandland forced his way over, Challenor adding his second goal with 20 minutes remaining.

The momentum turned in the 56th minute, busy Celtic hooker Kyle Blackmore spotting a gap and sneaking through, Loren Quick converting to reduce the gap to two points again and make it game on. Siddal still dominated possession but two flashes of Grant’s pace turned the contest.

Clever hands found Grant in space and he made no mistake in the corner to put the visitors in front for the first time and in an almost identical move he secured the points, Quick adding his second goal to end Siddal’s brave challenge.
