Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has endorsed the country's bid to enter the Australian Rugby League competition, the NRL. The National Executive Council has endorsed a bid team which will include the man behind the Gold Coast Titan's successful campaign, Paul Broughton, and QLD Maroons coach, Mal Meninga.
PNG rugby League chief executive Danny Holmes has welcomed the move.
"I think that so long as the race is running we are in there with a chance and the NRL has given us permission to use the NRL title," he said.
"That is a good indication that they are well behind us and it can only go down as a vote of confidence in the current state of affairs.
"We are in the race we have some good backing and support." |
