Former rugby league Test and State of Origin player Dale Shearer is in critical condition in hospital after a crash on the Sunshine Coast. Police on Sunday confirmed a 43-year-old man had been hurt in an accident at Peregian Springs just after 11pm (AEST) on Saturday.

The Queenslander was in hospital in a critical condition with non life-threatening injuries at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. It is believed he rolled his car, and has head and chest injuries.

A News Ltd website said the crash came one year after the death from cancer of his wife Delyse. A hospital spokeswoman said Shearer was in a critical but stable condition.

"I've spoken to the family but they don't want to make any further comment at this stage," the spokeswoman said
