Finally the start of the 2009 Rugby League season is upon us all here in Kent, already after this week the Kent Ravens had a positive start with a great turnout for a new team to the fold this year; The Ravens Academy for Under 18s.
The first session on Thursday evening went off in spectacular fashion with a big turn out, a high level of skills on show and things really looking good for the Academy as they set their stall out for the 2009 RFL London U18s league. Next Thursday numbers are predicted to only increase in the coming weeks and beyond.
“We have a lot of young players coming from all corners of Kent including players from Gravesend, Blackheath and our new home of New Ash Green. Everyone connected with the club believes that this growing squad have the potential to do very well this year” said academy captain Sam Heard.
This coming Thursday (5th) also sees the start of training for the men’s squad including the first team and reserves. The session is open to everyone even if you have had no rugby league experience before and will start at 7:30pm at New ash green Sports Pavilion, Punchcroft Road (DA3 8HS) The sessions both for the academy and men’s sections at this early stage will feature the fundamentals of rugby league which is perfect for both new and more seasoned players. The sessions will then progress towards the start of the season and will include a number of friendly fixtures, including a game against old rivals, South London Storm on he 21st.
Ravens, formerly based in Princes Park stadium, Dartford, and have been warmly received, with NAG extending the use of their facilities and with everyone working hard to raise funds to ensure our great young sides reach their full potential this season, and for the future.
