Warren Advocate - Castlereagh Cup rugby league has given its official stamp of approval to the formation of a Youth League competition as the league looks forward to its most exciting season to date. At a meeting convened at Gilgandra Bowling Club last week six clubs nominated for the Castlereagh Youth League which will include the Dunedoo Swans, Gulgong Terriers, Coonamble Bears, Gilgandra Panthers, St John’s Dubbo and South Dubbo Raiders.
“The competition has the full support of the Castlereagh Cup and we definitely welcome the injection of youth,” Castlereagh president Dean Leach said.
The re-invigoration of rugby league in the area is viewed as a major step towards the league regaining CRL Group status.
“Regaining group status is definitely a goal for the Castlereagh competition. This is a significant step towards achieving that goal but our main focus at present is working hard to make sure the 2009 competition is a success, creating a smoother pathway to senior ranks is the most important aspect,” Mr Leach said.
Youth League players will get their first taste of rugby league for 2009 in a seven a side carnival at Gilgandra on Sunday April 5 with the season proper to commence a fortnight later.
