By Stuart Robinson,Yorkshire Post - The widow of Wakefield Wildcats star Adam Watene is bringing together the treasured memories of fans, friends and team mates in a tribute book to her beloved husband. Moana Watene, speaking from Australia, told the YEP that putting the book together has helped her and their two young children come to terms with Adam's sudden death last year.

When completed, the book will be made available in Wakefield and Castleford for fans and friends to keep in tribute to the much-loved gentle giant.

Moana told the YEP: "This book is a dedication to Adam and to celebrate the life we spent together. He was such a wonderful father and husband and I really want people to see what I saw everyday.

"I've been working on the book for quite a while and I'm hoping that it can be out in August. It's a tribute rather than an autobiography, with different things about his life and people's memories of him."

The book will include pictures and tributes from Wildcats fans and anecdotes from team mates, family and those who knew the Cook Islands international.

Mr Watene joined Castleford from Burleigh Bears in Australia and was instrumental in their promotion to the Super League in 2005.

He joined Bradford Bulls the next year but made only five first-team appearances before switching to Wakefield.

His sudden death aged just 31 last October shocked the Rugby League world when he collapsed having complained of feeling dizzy and unwell at a local gym in Wakefield. The cause of his death is still unclear.

Following the tragedy a fund was set up in Mr Watene's name and a number of high-profile fundraising events have taken place.

His wife, 32, said the book has been a big help to her and the couple's two children Arana, 10 and Ena, five.

She said: "Every little picture has a memory and it's special for the kids when they look at them and say 'I remember that' and hopefully the people who read it will say the same."
