The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, Centrals Townsville and Jupiters Townsville are joining forces to raise funds for Sam Faust, a former player for the Cowboys who has been diagnosed with leukaemia. The Sam Faust Benefit Dinner will be held on Saturday 14 November at Jupiters Townsville, with all proceeds going to assist Sam and his family as the 25-year-old undergoes an intensive course of chemotherapy.

The event will be a great night of entertainment including a guest speaker, live music, Cowboys personalities and auctions and raffles.

Tickets are $150 per person or $1,400 for a table of 10, and are available by calling 1300 737 909.

The Cowboys are also in the process of setting up a trust fund for Sam and his family, to enable supporters to make donations directly to the trust - details will be available at www.cowboys.com.au soon.

Sam played for the Toyota Cowboys in 2007 and 2008, and Executive Director Peter Parr is encouraging fans and supporters to get behind the fundraising drive wherever they can.

"Sam is probably best remembered for our run into the finals in 2007 when we were decimated by injuries and he put his hand up for the club and for the North Queensland region and got us to within one game of the grand final," Parr says.

"Sam's unable to work while he has his treatment - he's an apprentice carpenter - and he and his wife and young family need a lot of support at the moment.

"The Cowboys are doing everything we can to help Sam, as a former player of the club.

"It's important to note that we're doing this in conjunction with Centrals Tigers, and we've had great support from Jupiters Townsville."

Sam is a North Queensland local, born in Proserpine, who played for the Proserpine Brahmans as a junior before making his first grade debut with the Cowboys in 2007.
