By Peter Smith - Full-back Brent Webb insists there's no crisis at Leeds Rhinos, but he admitted they do have plenty to work on. After losing half their opening six matches, Rhinos are now seventh in the engage Super League table, four points adrift of leaders Wigan Warriors.
The 26-20 setback at Huddersfield Giants on Sunday - following defeats against Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats - means Rhinos have lost to three of last season's top eight.
The teams they have beaten, Crusaders, Salford City Reds and Harlequins, all finished in the bottom-four last year.
Webb, though, claimed it's too early to start getting concerned. "There's still another 21 rounds to go," he pointed out.
"It's maybe more than people expect us to lose, but every team is going to have ups and downs.
"We have got to fix what we are doing, not worry about wins and scoreboards and just put things right on the field."
Webb said he felt there were some positives from Sunday's game. "We had a lot of chances to win it and we should have won it," he stated.
"We're more disappointed than anything. We had a lot of chances to put them away - I don't know how many chances we had down around their try line, but we just fluffed it every time we went down there.
"It's just a lack of talk and a lack of organisation."
Rhinos coach Brian McClennan is hopeful captain Kevin Sinfield, who has missed two games due to a dead leg, will be available for Friday's home clash with Hull KR.
But Greg Eastwood, Carl Ablett and Scott Donald are all on the long-term casualty list, Kallum Watkins suffered a leg injury at Huddersfield and Ryan Bailey, Webb and Ryan Hall picked up knocks in that game.
Webb stressed Rhinos can't use the mounting injury toll as an excuse for below-par displays.
"Every team's going to have injuries," he said. "It is something we have got to get on with.
"I don't think it has changed our team a whole lot. We have got guys who can fill in a number of positions.
"It is just a matter of cohesion and communication, I think.
"We've played with each other a long time now and it's not good enough. We have to work hard to get through it. You can't throw your hands up in the air, you have to put the hard work in during the week.
"More than any other time, we have got to do that.
"There's a long time to go this year, but you can't leave it too long."
Meanwhile, Rhinos forward Jay Pitts has been cautioned by the RFL for "placing undue pressure on the shoulder joint" of an opponent during Sunday's clash.
