West Cumbria 44 Leigh East 12 A hat trick from winger Jordan Martin saw WEST CUMBRIA get off to the best possible defence of their crown with a 44-12 home win over LEIGH EAST at the Recreation Ground, Whitehaven.
The first two came in the opening 17 minutes, fellow winger Ashley Draper also crossing. Stand off James McDonald extended their lead with a fourth unconverted try out wide but Leigh East registered their first points of the campaign in the 27th minute when loose forward Keiran Johnson crossed by the posts, Matthew McCabe converting.
Three tries in six blistering minutes at the start of the second half confirmed Wests' intentions, full back Martin O'Neill and centre Danny Rodwell going over on the left and right respectively and outstanding hooker Alistair Leak burrowed his way over near the posts for Cory Bouch to land their first goal.
Prop Jamie Martin was next across, Bouch landing the extras, Ryan Worrall replying for Easts, McCabe gaoling. Andrew Smith grabbed a try for the Cumbrians and, two minutes from time, Jordan Martin sealed his treble in a comprehensive win.
BRADFORD DUDLEY HILL 33 HEMEL STAGS 28 Nineteen points from two tries, five goals and a field goal by BRADFORD DUDLEY HILL full back Ryan Softley saw his side win a dramatic clash 33-28 at HEMEL STAGS although it took Benjamin Goddard to take a high kick in the final seconds to deny Stags.
Ryan Jackson opened the scoring for the visitors, Stephen Marshall countering. Softley ghosted over for his first but touchdowns to Ryan Musgrove, Cameron Furlong and three Connor Boyd-Barnes goals gave Hemel an 18-12 half time lead.
Softley levelled with a self converted try, added a goal to a fine effort from Goddard and landed a penalty to put Dudley Hill in charge. Aiden Douglas ran a great line on the left to increase the visitor's lead, Softley gaoling and adding a field goal. Stags staged a superb rally, stand off Ben Kavanagh scoring from his own chip and then setting up winger Marshall in a terrific clash.
