Manly centre Steve Matai and prop Jason King have been banned for Sunday's must-win NRL qualifying final against St George Illawarra after entering early guilty pleas to high tackles.

Matai will miss a whopping seven matches for his grade-three hit on Canterbury hooker Michael Ennis, while King's grade-one charge will seem him gone for one match.

Back rower Chris Bailey also pleaded guilty to a high tackle but is free to play the Dragons because of his clean record.

That will come as some relief to Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler, with the team already batting a lengthy injury list.

Should the Sea Eagles fall at the first hurdle this weekend, Matai will miss the first six weeks of next season.

He faced a nine-match ban he had fought the charge at the judiciary and lost.

South Sydney back rower Dave Taylor, who was named in the Kangaroos train-on squad on Monday for the end-of-season Four Nations tournament, also escaped suspension despite pleading guilty to a high tackle charge.
