The Yass Magpies hopes of becoming a competition threat in 2011 have received a boost, with former Les McIntyre Medallist Tim Donovan signing with the club. Coach Mark Bell confirmed to the Tribune this week that Donovan, a Raiders premier league player and Canberra Raiders Cup best and fairest winner in 2006, would turn out for the Magpies next season.

Tough Warriors forward Micheal Luck is to return from an ugly leg wound to play in the opening NRL finals match against Gold Coast on Friday. It was initially feared the 28-year-old could miss the rest of the season after he suffered a deep gash to his thigh in a freak incident when accidentally slashed by Manly backrower Anthony Watmough's boot last month.

By Ian McCullough - New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney says Manly centre Steve Matai needs to reassess the way he plays after being banned from the NRL finals and Four Nations Test series. Matai and Sea Eagles co-captain Jason King will both miss Manly's must-win qualifying final clash with minor premiers St George Illawarra on Sunday after taking early guilty pleas to high tackle charges on Tuesday.

Canberra back-rower Danny Galea has been given a significant boost ahead of his NRL finals showdown with former club Penrith, re-signing with the Raiders until the end of 2011. The former Panther and West Tiger, who had signed with the Raiders on a one year deal this year, has enjoyed a strong season despite missing the early rounds with a broken hand.

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans duo Preston Campbell and Luke Bailey have been named to make their anticipated returns from injury in the club's opening finals encounter against the New Zealand Warriors at Skilled Park on Friday night. In a significant boost for the side, Campbell (hamstring) has been named to make his comeback from a hamstring injury which has sidelined him for the past three weeks while Bailey is expected to make his return from a broken thumb which ruled him out of last week's final-round win over the Wests Tigers.

The new QR National rail transport company have thrown their support behind a bid for a national rugby league team in Central Queensland. QR National CEO & Managing Director Mr Lance Hockridge said that many of QR National employees were located in Central Queensland and the company would be proud to support a team locals can call their own.
