By Nick Berrett - Dayboro is one win away from a decade of utter dominance in the Brisbane 2nd Division Northside 2 rugby league competition. The Cowboys head into their grand final clash against Northside Natives tomorrow with an astonishing seven grand final wins from nine years, including last year's win over Mitchelton. They have not lost a premiership match since May 22 this year.
Yet the Cowboys are no certainties for an eighth victory. The Cowboys recorded two victories over the Natives this year, including a semi-final win. But a repeat of their Ted Beaumont Cup capitulation, in which the Natives won 36-4, is something coach Trent McDonald hopes to avoid.
``They touched us up (in that game), but that taught us a few things,'' he said.
``I think it is 50-50, we have probably been the best two sides all year.'‘
McDonald is used to the pressure of the grand final, but while he has been player-coach for the side, this will be the first year he won't strap on the boots for the big one.
``It is quite different on the sideline, you like to be out there,'' he said. ``At least I won't be sore on Monday.
``I tried to keep it simple, run hard, tackle hard, we don't try to complicate it too much.'‘
The club is feeling good, although McDonald has had to cut his playing squad from 22 to 19.
Kick-off is 4pm at Davies Park, West End.
